The first stage of the project started in May 2021. It involved a series of 21 bilingual workshops at the SIAL.school (London, Holland Park). About 45 children / teenagers ranging from 9 to 21 years of age took part in the workshops.
They contributed to the creation of ideas for the story of the Musical, through a variety of activities: free writing; devising; tableaux; dramatic and musical improvisation.
The activities took place both individually and in groups, most of the time in Italian.
Drama and creative writing activities were led by Anna Landi, drama and creative writing tutor. Luke Saydon, music tutor and lyricist /composer guided the participants through the creation of musical ideas, which completed the story and the characters.
In addition to the workshops with children / teenagers, two online workshops were organised for Italian parents and grandparents to gather ideas and inspiration for the story.
